Have just come back from the most amazing 3 days hiking in Torres del Paine National Park. The most fantastic scenery we could have wished for, from snow-capped mountains to turquoise lakes so clear we could see the bottom, and every type of weather, from snow on the first afternoon, to getting sunburnt on day 2, to surviving gale force Antarctic winds yesterday! Was absolutely beautiful and we had a brilliant time.
Unfortunately have to dash now as we are running late for catching a bus back to Punta Arenas! Will write with some more details of our time in Patagonia soon. Needless to say, we are completely exhausted, having walked 56km (35 miles) in the 3 days up hill and down dale, and having scrambled for an hour over the biggest rocks I have ever seen in my life on the first afternoon to reach the base of the Torres themselves, but feel great! Strange combination but was just so enjoyable we have actually come out the other side feeling more rested than when we started.

Sounds very pleasant and, yes, in a funny sort of way it's true that lots of exercise can leave you rested and relaxed.
If you are now getting experience of rock climbing than maybe you would consider joining the Canvey Island Mountain Rescue Team when you return to England.
