Iguazu Falls were totally amazing!

We spent 7 hours in the park yesterday and saw the falls from the lower and upper walks and also went out to see the biggest falls, the ¨Devil´s Throat¨, in the afternoon. Access to those is on the scariest walkway ever, basically a number of struts of metal joined together and stretching out for 2 km over the Paraná river. I was holding on for dear life the entire time but was worth it for the amazing view across the top of the falls and to Brazil. The falls are actually made up of 275 different waterfalls, spread out along the border between Brazil and Argentina, and separated into the different waterfalls by lots of little rocks and islands in the river, just where it cascades down. The force of the water falling was incredible and we just stood transfixed watching it for a lot of the time!! Was really beautiful and the force of nature was so impressive, we had a marvellous time wandering about and taking lots of photos.

We´re now back in Foz do Igaçu and have had a really relaxing day after lots of walking yesterday! We wandered up to El Hito this morning, which is the viewpoint in Puerto Iguazu where you can see the border between Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay at the convergence of the Paraná and Igaçu rivers. Each country has a monument to international co-operation, painted in the colours of its flag, which can be seen from the others so it is quite cool sitting there enjoying the sunshine and looking at people in two other countries looking at you!! We then crossed back in to Brazil (with public buses every 30 mins, and super friendly border staff, it is probably the easiest land crossing we have had!) and have spent this afternoon splashing around in the swimming pool at our little hotel and lazing about in the sunshine. With so little time left it is starting to feel more like a holiday and less like a trip round the world with every day that passes!

We´re off to visit Igaçu Falls (Portuguese spelling this time!) from the Brazilian side tomorrow and then fly to Rio on Saturday. Cost 30 dollars more to fly but the bus ride was 24 hours and 16 hours from Sao Paulo was enough! We officially ran out of money last week and so, as all expenses are now over budget anyway, we thought we´d treat ourselves!
