Greetings from Göteborg! We're having a great time in Sweden, although it's still freezing cold. The thermals have definitely come in very handy! Had a day trip out today to Lake Vänern, up the Göta canal, to Tröllhatten and Vänersborg. Vänersborg is one of the most popular Swedish summer resorts but the lake was frozen over as far as the eye could see today so wasn't tempted to top up our tan! Most of the canal was also frozen over, its melting slowly northward and spring should arrive properly in about a month! Its strange to think that summer here in Scandinavia is only officially July and August, daffodils don't come out until the end of May! It is really beautiful though with all the snow, can't have everything!
We are heading to Denmark in the morning (by ferry to Frederickshavn). We're going up to Skagen where the baltic and north seas meet. It was recommended to us by Peter, a danish guy we met in the youth hostel in Bergen so we're skipping Stockholm and following a local's recommendation and should be fun!! Will then go down to Aarhus and on to Copenhagen to make our way to Berlin. We're already learnt the number one rule of travelling, don't plan too much! We had intended to go to Holmenkollen ski-jump for example but when we arrived at the museum, the biathlon world cup was on so we skipped the museum and went to the world cup. Its something you could never see in the UK and I didn't have a clue what was going on but loved it just the same! Its the same with Denmark, it was to be Copenhagen only but everyone we have met says it's a fab place to visit so we've changed the route. I love this flexibility although its taking a while to get used to!!
Can't wait to see some of you in Berlin! Take care xx
