Well we didn't actually make it to Kaunas after possibly the worst journey ever across Poland but did make it to Vilnius direct on Friday morning! Have been having a great time since we (finally!) arrived. Had a great day trip out to Trakai yesterday and have been enjoying trying the local food - cepelini, which are giant potato dumplings stuffed with sausage meat, and kibinai, which are lithuanian cornish pasties to all intents and purposes, are yummy, if not exactly healthy options!! Trakai is famous for its castle, which was reconstructed without soviet approval and became a symbol of national identity during the USSR years. It can only be accessed via a footbridge to the island and is really beautiful, looks like something out of Sleeping Beauty.

I've got a great cold in full stream (courtesy of our room mate on the sleeper from Berlin to Krakow I believe!) so today we dispensed with sightseeing and have had a really nice relaxing day. We went to the cinema for the first time since we moved house last August (saw Firewall, really enjoyed it, standard Harrison Ford adventure/family in danger/tough guy fare but good fun!) and enjoyed a walk along the river. Off to Riga in the morning so fingers crossed for a better journey than last time.....
